VINTAGE FINISH model that offers the aged look and feel right from the start
"AKOM" was established in New York, USA, in the mid-1940s as "ASSOCIATED KNITTED OUTERWEAR MILLS, INC". From the initials of the company name, "AKOM" KNITWEAR was born. At that time, they brought design elements to sportswear such as sweats and parkas, which were innovative in design and emphasized functionality, establishing their status as acceptable street wear. Despite existing for only about 20 years until the late 1960s, many of their masterpieces, which pursued unique functionality and design, are still highly regarded and popular in the vintage market.
This model was created with the imagining of "what if AKOM had made AFTER HOODIES back then?" The original pattern was taken from a 1950s freedom sleeve body.
Freedom sleeve specification, cotton sewing thread, made in Japan. The length and裄丈 (sleeve length from the center of the back) are slightly longer than vintage items.
This is a reproduction inspired by vintage AKOM freedom sleeve sweatshirts. It is a middle-weight 10.7 oz fabric, sulfur-dyed to allow for aging.
Knitted on a rare 1970s old-style small circular knitting machine, and brushed without opening on a special brushing machine while still in its tubular form. For the XL size, a custom knitting machine is used to achieve a larger size that was not available in vintage items. Furthermore, the fabric is painstakingly finished using an old-style winch machine for a long, high-temperature bleaching and washing process, and a large tumbler for drying, resulting in a fabric with an excellent texture.
