● BODY: Original round body fleece
"AKOM" was established in New York, USA, in the mid-1940s as "ASSOCIATED KNITTED OUTERWEAR MILLS, INC." The company's initials gave rise to "AKOM" KNITWEAR. At the time, they incorporated design into functional sports wear like sweats and parkas, which had innovative designs and prioritized functionality, establishing them as acceptable streetwear. Despite existing for only about 20 years until the late 1960s, many of their masterpieces, which pursued unique functionality and design, are still highly regarded and popular in the vintage market.
This time, it is a collaboration with this brand, and the pattern is based on the 1950s freedom sleeve body.
Freedom sleeve specification, sewing thread is cotton thread specification, made in Japan. The length and sleeve length are slightly extended compared to vintage items.
This is a reproduction of a vintage AKOM freedom sleeve sweatshirt. It is a middle-ounce 10.7 oz fabric, and the dyeing is sulfur dye, which allows for enjoying aging.
It is knitted on a rare old-style small-gauge circular knitting machine from the 1970s, and special napping machines are used to nap the fabric while it is still in a round body without opening it. For the XL size, a custom-made knitting machine is used to create a big size that was not available in vintage items. Furthermore, it is made into a very soft fabric by taking time with an old-style Wins machine, bleaching at high temperatures, washing, and drying using a large tumbler, all with great care.
